Warrington Celebrates Pride

Each year, staff and people we support in Warrington hold their own LGBTQ+ Pride festival. This year, they invited people from other services for a big campout to offer the real festival experience!

Folks from St Helens, Knowsley, Halton, Telford and Shrewsbury packed their tents and put on spectacular costumes to gather with friends, dance to live music and eat delicious BBQ food.

They had a fabulous time, singing along to a guitarist and an Elvis impersonator. Everyone donated lots of fun gifts for the raffle too.

Registered Manager Jackie Unsworth went charity shopping the week before to get some great props for photos against the feature wall she made.

Jackie said, “It was such a great turn out and a wonderful day. Many people made new friends and the sun was out the whole time.”

They will begin their fundraising again in the New Year for next year’s festival which they hope will be even bigger and better!

Happy Pride, everyone! It looks like you all had a wonderful time celebrating the community!

Manchester’s ‘My MOT’ Day

Yesterday, around 40 people attended our ‘My MOT’ Health and Wellbeing Day in Levenshulme Old Library, Manchester!

It was a free event to encourage people who access support to learn more about their mental and physical wellbeing.

We had the privilege of inviting local health services including NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care, Nuffield Health MIHP, Be Smoke Free provided by Change Grow Live, BHA for Equality, and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust to set up stalls inside and chat to everyone.

Before a free lunch, the amazing Zumba coach Nicky turned on some feel-good dance tunes. Helen in Stockport said: “I like dancing to keep fit. It makes me happy. At my service, I do yoga in the morning and Zumba in the afternoon every Thursday. This is why I came to the My MOT Day – to do some more!”

Wakefield’s ‘Sporty Summer’ Disco

After receiving their ‘Sporty Summer Celebration’ grant of up to £800, 13 services in Wakefield hired out a space at Rycroft Leisure Centre for a sporty disco!

Lots of people had a go on the activities purchased including penalty shootout, swingball, darts and hoopla. Others preferred a dance under the incredible light show projected on the wall.

Cathy was overjoyed to receive a medal, while Bev got an egg with a smiley face on it for winning hoopla. Bev said, “I’ve had my eye on that egg with a smiley face from the start.”

It was a special afternoon, with staff and people we support getting to know each other and forming connections.
