Celebrating Easter

Celebrating Easter

Easter is a wonderful time of the year, with sunnier weather on the horizon, activities aplenty and opportunities to spend time with loved ones. Easter is also the Christian holiday which celebrates Jesus rising from the tomb after his crucifixion, but you don’t have to be religious to enjoy the festivities!

From chocolate and sweet treats to decorating eggs and making Easter bonnets, there are lots of things we can do to mark the occasion and spend time having fun too. If you’re stuck for ideas for how to celebrate and get involved, check out some suggestions below and let us know if you try any!

Crafts

If you’re a crafty and creative person, there are lots of activities you could try that tie in to Easter. For example, have you ever made an Easter bonnet? This fun craft can be as simple as you like, all you need is a cheap bonnet you can buy from a local supermarket along with whatever decorations pick your fancy. You can also get really inventive and add bunny ears with some paper or card and a little glue, or turn your bonnet into a tribute to your favourite things with toy cars, books, or anything else you can think of.

Another Easter craft you can enjoy is decorating eggs. You can decorate hard boiled eggs, or empty out an egg by pricking holes at the top and bottom and blowing so the egg comes out of the shell but keeps the shell intact. You might need some help with this, so please ask a member of staff who will be happy to help. Then all you need are some paints or pens to decorate your eggs, which you can then hang up as festive baubles!

Easter cards

Easter cards aren’t as widespread or common as Christmas cards, but no-one is ever upset when they receive a thoughtful card, no matter the occasion!

Making your own Easter cards is a really fun craft that you can make with only a few materials. You could go really simple with a piece of card folded over which you then draw an Easter-related picture onto like a bunny or flowers or eggs. You could also pick up some craft materials like pipe cleaners, glitter, etc. and design a card with lots of fun elements that way too.

Easter Treats

Of course, chocolate isn’t in short supply over Easter, but there are still lots of tasty treats including chocolate nests you can make yourself to enjoy over the holiday. For example, if you’re sick of chocolate eggs, you could melt them down either on the hob or in the microwave, then add cereal like cornflakes or rice crispies, give them all a good mix and pop into little muffin or cake cases, and voila! You’ve made chocolate nests. You can go one step further and pop some mini eggs into your nests to make it look even more real.

Have a look for chocolate-based recipes in recipe books, and if you don’t have any recipe books to hand, why not take a trip to your local library- they might even have Easter activities on offer at the library itself so you could enjoy them while you’re there picking out some delicious recipes!

Local Activities

Lots of places across the country like to celebrate Easter by bringing people together to enjoy a range of Easter-related activities. Have a look online or at your local community centre for opportunities, you’ll be surprised at what you might find! There are Easter egg hunts, tulip or flower picking, Easter walking trails, group crafting activities and much more. The National Trust hosts lots of experiences like this- check out what’s on near you by clicking on the link here: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/whats-on/easter-egg-hunts?type=event

This year we’re celebrating ‘Doing What Matters to Me’, so however you choose to celebrate Easter and whatever activities you enjoy, get creative and make it your own!
