Creative Stars – July

Congratulations to our latest round of Creative Stars winners!
Our service user awards celebrate the people who shine brightly and do wonderful things for each other. We have four exciting category winners, who will receive a badge, £30 Love2Shop voucher and a certificate.

Congratulations to this month’s round of winners:

High Flyer Award

Jack Mackel, South Shields

Jack was nominated for being a hero during a recent
fire at the service!

Jack noticed that a fire had started in another tenant’s back garden, and as it was outdoors the alarms had not been alerted. Straightaway Jack alerted staff & called 999 to report it to the fire service. Jack then ran inside to instruct everyone to leave their flats while staff rang the alarm and evacuated everyone safely.

Without Jack’s help, staff say the fire could have been a lot worse, and they praised his ability to remain calm and get everyone to safety. Fantastic work Jack, we all applaud your bravery!

“Jack showed us he can report on an emergency.”

Eco-friendly Award

Gary, Stoke-on-Trent

Gary has been putting in extra effort to transform the garden for everyone at the service to enjoy. Thanks to his help, the garden is a calm place for people to spend time, and Gary’s attitude has inspired other tenants to look after the area. The project has also had a positive impact on Gary’s mental health and he has been participating in lots of other activities too.

Gary’s efforts have made the garden “extra delightful”, and everyone is so proud!

“We are so very proud of Gary.”

Positivity Award

Matthew Thomas, Dudley

Despite being new to the service, Matthew has gained so much confidence in a short amount of time, and is always seen with a smile. Matthew goes out of his way to show kindness to his fellow tenants, cooking meals for everyone, hosting karaoke evenings and planning trips out! Matthew has his own DJ equipment and is always eager to put himself forward to provide the entertainment, even producing his own business cards and flyers.

Well done Matthew, everyone appreciates your supportiveness and think you’re a wonderful person to have around!

“Matthew has a brilliant can-do attitude.”

Community Champion Award

Joanne W, Tameside

Joanne is this month’s Community Champion for going out of her way to learn how to communicate with another tenant, and they have now become friends!

Joanne learned that her new co-tenant used Makaton. So with the support of staff, Joanne learned some basic Makaton signs to help her communicate. Joanne learned to sign “hello”, “how are you”, “cake”, and “later” – all the most important phrases!

Joanne and her team hope to keep learning more signs to continue their friendship. What an inspiring story, amazing work Joanne!

“Joanne made a new friend.”
