Scunthorpe’s Sporty Summer

Scunthorpe’s Sporty Summer

Our North Lincolnshire services applied for our Sporty Summer ‘Get Together’ grant of up to £300, using it to hold a Sports Day in the park!

The day was a bit breezy and chilly, but no rain came to dampen the day, much to everyone’s surprise given the forecast!

23 people from six services across the area came together for plenty of games, activities and fun. Participants got on their Sporty Summer wristbands, before Jamie led a warm-up session to get everyone ready for the day.

The first event was a hula-hoop challenge to see who could keep their hoop up for the longest, resulting in lots of laughter! Jason was the winner, proving himself a true hula hoop star. Well done!

Next came the water balloon race to see who could be the first to get their balloon to the end without popping it – not as easy as it sounds! Congrats to Della and Alice who won the first race, and Jamie who won the staff race.

Who can resist a classic egg and spoon race? Although many were dropped, no eggs were harmed in the making of this race. Alice was the winner of this one, and she didn’t drop her egg once – eggsellent!

It was time to pit two teams against each other, as everyone took part in a bit of friendly rivalry in a game of rounders. It was a fierce competition, with everyone managing to get round once and resulting in a draw!

After this it was time for the staff race. Jamie, Libby and Nicole were all very competitive and wanted the win, but the honours went to Jamie!

After all that exercise everyone welcomed a lunch break, enjoying a picnic in the park and some much-needed rest before the remainder of the afternoon.

Next up was the football skills challenge, where so many people showcased their incredible skills, and this also resulted in a draw! So much talent had gathered in Scunthorpe today.

The final group race was open to anyone who still had the beans for one last hurrah. The ribbon was broken by Nick, who took first place!

To wrap up the day, the awards ceremony recognised each individual who had taken part in the day, given it their all and most importantly had fun. Everyone received a medal, and competition winners received a special trophy.

Summing it up, Simon said “It’s been marvellous.” Many people asked to organise another next year, “when it’s a bit warmer” added Eddie. If only we could guarantee that with our British weather!
