Sporty Summer Roundup
This year we launched ‘Sporty Summer’, giving out grants of up to £800 to help people come together and throw a sporty event in their area. We were delighted to give out 12 grants to services across the country, and you can read about how they went below!
Halifax
The Creative Together forum in Calderdale & Kirklees applied for our ‘Get Together’ grant of up to £300. Over 30 people enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon taking part in Olympic-themed sports activities!

Blackburn
Services in Lancashire were awarded our ‘Sporty Summer Celebration’ grant of up to £800 to bring together 13 services in an afternoon of sports and games.
“We can now use this new equipment year after year and the event is much more accessible to people we support.”
Scunthorpe
Our North Lincolnshire services applied for our Sporty Summer ‘Get Together’ grant of up to £300, using it to hold a Sports Day in the park!
Summing it up, Simon said “It’s been marvellous.” Many people asked to organise another next year, “when it’s a bit warmer” added Eddie.
Wakefield Extra Care
Wakefield folks celebrated Sporty Summer in style, holding a tailored session so everyone could enjoy being seated indoors. They received the Sporty Summer ‘Get Together’ grant of up to £300, using the money for indoor games, picnic-style food, and football bunting and decorations.
“It’s nice to get people together with the staff team. People loved seeing the carers dressing up and getting involved. It was a brilliant day and people are already asking when the next event will be!”
Trafford
Trafford services used their Sporty Summer ‘Get Together’ grant of up to £300, to enjoy a barbecue in the garden and a bit of Zumba!
The service splashed out on multi-coloured bunting, tasty party food, barbecue goods, and plenty of party games to keep everyone entertained.
“People are already asking when the next event will be!”
North East
When the North East planned an afternoon of activities after receiving their Sporty Summer ‘Celebration’ grant of up to £800, the turnout was amazing. Around 30 of our services from across the region gathered at Harton Welfare Club in South Shields on a bright, clear Wednesday morning.
“The event has been great. The penalty shootout and relay were the best bits.”
Tameside
11 services in Tameside used their Sporty Summer ‘Celebration’ grant of up to £800 to throw a sports day to remember, held at their local cycle track. With activities spread across the field, people could take part in hoop toss, splat-the-rat, egg and spoon races, inflatable darts, tin can throw, penalty shootout, and much more

London – Tower Hamlets
Five services across Tower Hamlets in London joined forces to compete in a friendly sports day event, spread through the common room of the service and outside in the garden!
The group used their Sporty Summer ‘Get Together’ grant of up to £300 to deck the service out in activities to keep everyone busy all afternoon.
London – Bromley
Supported Living and Extra Care services across the London boroughs received a Sporty Summer ‘Celebration’ grant of up to £800 to hold a sports day. Around 60 staff and people we support gathered in Crystal Palace Park in Bromley to take part in activities in the late summer sun.
“It was so lovely to see people forming connections and feeling sociable.”
Wakefield
After receiving their Sporty Summer ‘Celebration’ grant of up to £800, 13 services in Wakefield hired out a space at Rycroft Leisure Centre for a sporty disco.
Support Worker Sharon was delighted to bring everyone together for the first time, to welcome some of the newer services to Creative Support. Sharon said, “It’s so nice to be under the same roof.”
