Wakefield Extra Care’s Sporty Summer
Folks at Wakefield Extra Care celebrated Sporty Summer in style, holding a tailored session so everyone could enjoy being seated indoors. They received the Sporty Summer ‘Get Together’ grant of up to £300, using the money for indoor games, picnic-style food, and football bunting and decorations.
“A lot of our residents are over 70, so we took on board the theme and did things that felt sporty to us!” said Georgina, Team Leader.
Around 25 people attended the event, including people from other care providers who are familiar with the service.
“I put together a sports quiz – I know nothing about sports, so I narrowed down questions I found on the internet to 15 that I think even I could answer!” said Georgina.
Everyone also enjoyed games using the bouncy ball and skittles, which got everyone cheering and in the competitive spirit. After a few rounds there was a pause to enjoy a cup of coffee, and Georgina made everyone a special packed lunch to enjoy for their dinner. “Everyone really liked it. The bags were reusable and I’ve seen a couple of people using them since.”
“It’s nice to get people together with the staff team. People loved seeing the carers dressing up and getting involved. It was a brilliant day and people are already asking when the next event will be!”
It looks like a fabulous event, and we love seeing all the different ways of celebrating Sporty Summer!
